A small study inspired by one of the woodland's most recognisable fungi.
The vivid red caps of the fly agaric seem almost unreal against the deep greens and earthy browns of the forest floor. I was drawn to the striking contrast in colour, but also to the challenge of capturing the damp, sheltered atmosphere where these mushrooms thrive.
Using loose, expressive brushstrokes, I focused on creating a sense of light filtering through the woodland, allowing the paint itself to evoke the textures of moss, leaves and fungi.
